Historical Context
Nottingham Forest v Malmö and past encounters. The both teams have a special connection, also meeting in Forest's last European campaign in the 1995-96 Uefa Cup, but it is the premier competition final from 1979 that entwines these two together, with Britain's first £1m player Trevor Francis netting the decisive goal of a rather dull championship game to secure historic victory for the Forest supporters.

Theirs has been an outstanding achievement that it is difficult to imagine happening again – from second tier to European stage in just three years."
It's also interesting to pause a little on Malmö, who became the first, and to date the last Nordic team to make the championship match under British coach Houghton.
This match is a very different to that peak, closer perhaps to the Uefa Cup first-round tie between Forest and Malmö in that era. Forest are riding high after beating Liverpool 3-0 at Liverpool's home on Saturday, while Malmö have been inactive since early November following the end of the Swedish league season. The general expectation is on the English side tonight.
