Trumpism's most telling and distinctive moments – not its most important, nor most harsh, nor most hazardous, nor most foolish, but possibly its most revealing – emerged earlier this harvest season. In the course of a few weeks, the American president commenced revealing the public his plans for an ornate dance hall double the dimensions of the White House and subsequently started solo dismantling the East Wing to construct it.
He has performed deeds countless times more severe – the existing assessment of deaths resulting from his reductions to USAID is 600,000 and increasing, and this week research predicted his energy policies would result in fatalities an additional 1.3 million. But nothing as definitional. No other president would have dared – really, no previous leader would have imagined – independently wrecking significant portions of the White House to construct a Versailles-style party room, with the active collaboration of multiple America's wealthiest, the majority of whom have business with federal agencies.

As confusing as it is to watch the president seek to颠覆 the old idea of democracy and replace it with its polar opposite, there remains a substantial portion within America who should not find it completely novel. That encompasses people such as ourselves – within elder demographics a near majority – who were raised as conventional Protestant believers.
We have observed across decades while conservative evangelical congregations transformed the Christ we grew up with into the complete reverse of who we understood him to be. Essentially, they turned a figure of love into a symbol of hate who approves specifically the brutality that he condemned in scripture; this change developed more slowly, across decades rather than months, yet it remains unsettling via comparable methods, a bewildering emotional blow for many of us.
A Harmful Christianity Takes Hold
So let me first describe the Christ from my childhood, as conceptually Jesus is the center within Christian belief, and because the fastest-growing cadre within America could have minimal awareness about him since they are atheists or uncertain individuals or nones. I raise no objection with these various perspectives, nor with different religions; but I do think that contain precious wisdom of substantial value within Christian narrative.

The apparent and clear truth that the Savior from scripture advocates for a type of extreme compassion concentrated on the poor has consistently rendered Christian religion rather a controversial faith: appealing to the masses, but because of its intrinsic extremism requiring to be controlled. In the 1950s it was controlled by dilution – Protestantism was so dominant that it practically blessed current circumstances.
A Conflict for the Highest of Us
So I have been heartened to see the determined opposition regarding Trump arise during the previous year.
