Zohran Mamdani Pledges a 'New Era' for New York City in First Speech
On his initial day in office, Zohran Mamdani vowed to “reinvent” the metropolis, promising “a fresh chapter” and an audacious start to his term.
An Unprecedented Figure
The new democratic socialist, who was a virtually unknown state assemblyman, is the city's first Muslim mayor. He additionally marked a milestone by being the first to be sworn in using the Qur'an.
“A moment like this comes rarely and even more uncommon is it that the people themselves whose hands are upon the controls for transformation,” Mamdani stated.
